Winter 2018’s Biggest Trends

The temperatures are dropping, the skies are grey, and it seems as though beach days are behind us this year. While it’s hard to say goodbye to summer, the good news is that the transition does come with its perks. Think about it, the arrival of winter means no more scorching days. The cooler temperatures mean more outfit options—and who can complain about that?

If you’re feeling a little lost as to what winter style will look like in 2018, don’t worry: we’ve got you covered. It can be difficult to know what to wear at the beginning of the new season, so we’ll let you in on our secret: turning to street style is always a good indication of the looks that are about to blow up. Thankfully for us, the end of winter street style in the Northern Hemisphere is a pretty accurate barometer of what sartorial changes are about to come our way.

VIBRANT COLOURS

Gone are the days where summer was the only season for colour. Despite the holidays being over, and the days getting a shorter, colour will remain a focal point in fashion this winter. To keep things feeling relevant, opt for super-bright hues; they’re so trendy at the moment

BEANIES

The beret is having a major moment right now, but it looks like that won’t be the only hat vying for our attention come autumn. The classic beanie, once strictly reserved for skiing holidays, is slowly but surely saturating street style images. Regardless of its simplicity, we must admit that something about the typical hat looks pretty cool with higher-fashion pieces.

PLAID

Much like spring florals, winter plaid just seems so right. While the pattern may be classic, however, the ways it’s being worn are anything but. When worn in a fun colour, or paired in an unexpected way, plaid is starting to take on an edgier vibe. And it works so well. Street style stars are catching onto this, so it’s time for the rest of us to get behind this trend as well.

MONOCHROMATIC SUITS

It’s like the power suit just became even more powerful. While a well-tailored pantsuit has always been a statement-making staple, the new coloured iterations we’ve been seeing lately kick the look up a notch. In bright hues, these monochromatic suits definitely mean business.

BABY” BAGS

This trend may not be the most convenient if you hope to carry anything larger than your iPhone, but we must admit, the little bags are definitely cute. Moving away from the statement-making bags of past seasons, we can expect to see more dainty bags this winter.  Think classic shapes, simple colours, and small sizes

BLACK AND ORANGE

Being a bit garish when combined, the prospect of pairing these Halloween colours is kind of scary at first. However, the more we keep seeing street style stars perfect the look, the more on board we are with the trend. One important tip to note when trying to pull this off? The black to orange ratio is very important. Aim for all black with just a hint of orange and you’ll be good to go!
